چکیده

The primary reproductive behavior of female quadrupeds is known as lordosis which is the bending of vertebral column during intercourse. This behavior depends on the actions of estrogens followed by progestin in cells within defined neuronal groups in the hypothalamus and midbrain. The main neural circuit for lordosis behavior is well established. Estrogen-dependent transcription in ventromedial hypothalamic (VMH) cells sends permissive signals to the midbrain central grey, thus enabling the rest of the circuit to operate [1]. Main neural circuit of lordosis consists of medial preoptic, medial anterior and ventromedial nucleus of hypothalamus, midbrain central gray, the reticular formation and spinal cord [2].

Genetic and plastic components of divergent male intersexual behavior in Misty lake/stream stickleback

The extent of variation in mating signals between environments can be an important determinant of reproductive isolation. We tested divergence in male courtship behavior between lake and stream three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus L.) in the Misty system, Vancouver Island. Presumably, genetically based divergence was assessed by comparing male behavior (aggressive, display, and nest...

Role of basal stress hormones and amygdala dimensions in stress coping strategies of male rhesus monkeys in response to a hazard-reward conflict

Objective(s): In the present study the effect of stress on monkeys that had learned to retrieve food from a five-chamber receptacle, as well as the relationship between their behavior and the serum cortisol and epinephrine levels and relative size of the amygdala was evaluated. Materials and Methods: Six male rhesus monkeys were individually given access to the food reward orderly. They could e...

Early amygdala or hippocampus damage influences adolescent female social behavior during group formation.

This study continues a longitudinal analysis of rhesus macaque social behavior following bilateral neonatal ibotenic acid lesions of the amygdala or hippocampus, or sham operations. The social behavior of female subjects was evaluated at a critical developmental time point-the transition to adulthood. At approximately 4 years of age, female subjects were housed in small groups with other female...

GABAB receptors within the central nucleus of amygdala may involve in the morphine-induced incentive tolerance in female rats

Objective(s): Central nucleus of amygdala (CeA) is the most important region for morphine-induced reward, and GABAergic system plays an important role on morphine reinforcement. The influence of CeA administration of GABAB receptor agonist and antagonist on the expression and acquisition of morphine-induced incentive tolerance using conditioned place preference (CPP) paradigm was investigated i...

Dissociated functional pathways for appetitive and consummatory reproductive behaviors in male Syrian hamsters.

In many species, including Syrian hamsters, the generation of male reproductive behavior depends critically on the perception of female odor cues from conspecifics in the environment. The behavioral response to these odors is mediated by a network of steroid-sensitive ventral forebrain nuclei including the medial amygdala (MA), posterior bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST) and medial pre...
